A lovely read! Also, regarding your outfit choice, have to say I thought you looked so lovely in the instagram post from the funeral it made me think of the Fleabag episode where she looks unintentionally amazing at her own mothers funeral! Perhaps worth a watch for the laughs and the tears xx
Allison, you are amazing! During the ceremony, I was standing behind you and noted to myself what a beautiful ribbon you had in your hair (and I have photos to prove it!).
I continue to be impressed with how you can step outside of yourself and present such an unvarnished insight into your whole process.
As my recently deceased almost 100 year-old mother would have commented, and believe me it is her highest praise: “She’s a real pistol!”
What an outstanding way to summarize the life and impact of someone who so profoundly shaped your life. As I read your mothers eulogy I couldn't help but smile at how proud your mother must have felt that so many of her loved ones but especially the daughter she thought would never be able to have a "normal" life is thriving beyond belief and keeping her spirit alive through such a difficult time. All my love Allison, I've followed you since the days of Buzzfeed and I can't help but feel a sense of pride at how far you've come. Thank you for sharing your wonderful mother with us, may her spirit continue to guide you. With love and tears, Paola.
This is very very beautiful, and comes to me on the day that I am writing, effectively, the eulogy I didn't get to give when my partner was killed one year ago tomorrow. Thank you so much for sharing.
Rereading this I am realizing that one of my oldest friends, who got to also become my partner Ryan's friend, and who spent the worst week of my life going to great lengths to help me and Ryan's community, is in one of the photos from your funeral. He had shared with me your mom's indelible impact on his life, but seeing him in the photo, especially today, is such a reminder of how far community and friendship sprawls and where it brings us. Thinking of you and your family, blood and chosen.
This was incredible! I’m truly impressed by how you were able to write an entire funeral service on such short notice and one that captured your mother’s essence so beautifully at that. Much love to you and your family, Allison. ❤️
