Thank you for sharing this - I definitely have the same bad habit and it's very much something I want to work on this year. I'd love it if you shared updates with us about how you're doing with reframing your thinking about these things. <3
Oof, hugely relevant. Thank you for writing this. I deeply relate as a grad student just starting my academic career and feeling like my achievements in undergrad are now irrelevant or old news. Here's to overcoming this mindset in 2023! :)
I'm so glad it resonated! I can see how that transition could really exacerbate the "that doesn't count" thinking but hopefully if we are both mindful of it we can better fight it! xoxo A
I feel this on a personal level. I often find myself comparing myself to my past version. Like, "why can't current me be as productive as past me? That person could write ten pages a day if they wanted to. You need to do better!" It's a neverending battle, and an emotional downer, but I remind myself, "you did that, not someone else. You're not your enemy here." That sometimes helps.
Working in the entertainment industry really perpetuates this line of thinking (I work in theatre). It feels like its set up that you are only as good as your next job, and still really hypes youth as being important, and encourages comparison - either with others or with versions of yourself. So its not all on you that you feel like this! The industry you are working in wants you to feel like this! It is definitely a thing that can be worked on, but isn't something that is happening in a vacuum.

I will definitely share any good tactics I stumble upon! Wishing us both luck on this tricky endeavor! xoxo A

That's a really good point!! In many ways we are set up to fall into that trap. But hopefully I can get better at avoiding it! xoxo A
This is exactly how I think and didn’t even realize it. How exhausting!
SO exhausting! Really hoping to move away from it in the next few months! xoxo A
